The SCEP certificate keeps your device secure and connected to AbleNet so it meets your insurance requirements and can get ableCARE service. It needs to be renewed every two years. 

Before You Begin

• The certificate can only be renewed within 180 days of when it expires. If you’re not in that window, there’s nothing to update yet. 

Renew the Certificate 

1. Connect your device to Wi-Fi, then leave it connected overnight. 
2. Wait for the certificate to update on its own. You don’t need to do anything else. 

Check That the Certificate Updated 

The next day, follow these steps to make sure the update worked. 

1. Tap Utilities. 
2. Tap Settings. 
3. Tap VPN & Device Management. 
4. Tap MDM Profile. 
5. Tap More Details. 
6. Under “SCEP Device Identity Certificate” find the “Expires” date. 
7. Check that the date is two years from now. If it is, you’re all set. 
   • If not, leave your device connected to Wi-Fi for a full 24 hours or try connecting to a cellular hotspot.
