You’re here because: You’re trying to open a web browser, YouTube, or another app on your device, but you can’t find it, or the device won’t let you leave the speech app.

The Web and Other Apps Are Blocked on Purpose

Insurance funds your device as a dedicated communication device, so it’s set up to keep the speech app front and center. It may look like a regular tablet, but it has key differences:

  • Military-grade protective case to handle drops, spills, and everyday use
  • Limited access to system apps and the App Store, to keep the focus on the speech app
  • Remote management to keep the speech app updated and working
  • Locked settings to prevent accidental deletions or changes that could affect communication

What to do:

  1. Use a separate device (smartphone, tablet, or computer) for the web, videos, and other apps. That way, the user can keep communicating while enjoying entertainment or other content, without interruption.
  2. Keep Guided Access turned on during the day. If it isn’t set up yet, follow Turn On Guided Access.
  3. Exit Guided Access every night, then plug the device into power and connect to Wi-Fi. This prevents the device from freezing and lets software updates install overnight.

You Can’t Exit the Speech App

Guided Access locks your device to the speech app so the user can’t accidentally leave it and lose access to their main way to share needs, ask questions, and connect with others. You’ll need your passcode to get out.

What to do:

  1. Follow the steps in “I Can’t Get Out of Guided Access” for instructions.
