You’re here because: Guided Access is turned on and you can’t turn it off, so the device stays locked in your speech app. Guided Access is an accessibility setting that keeps the device focused on your speech app during use.
Before You Begin
Have your Guided Access passcode ready. If you forgot it, go to “What To Do Next” and follow step 2.
What To Do
First, exit Guided Access:
- While in your speech app, triple-press the Sleep/Wake/Power Button. On older models with a round Home Button below the screen, triple-press the Home Button instead.
- Enter your Guided Access passcode when prompted.
- Tap End in the top left corner.
If it worked, Guided Access turns off and you can leave your speech app. If the Guided Access passcode screen doesn’t appear when you triple-press the button, go to “What To Do Next.”
We recommend ending the Guided Access session each night.
What To Do Next
If triple-pressing the power or home button doesn’t work, try these solutions in order. If you forgot your Guided Access passcode, skip to step 2.
- Force Restart Your Device. A force restart can resolve many Guided Access issues.
- Let the device run out of power. Once it turns off, recharge it. When it restarts, it will start up outside of Guided Access.
