You can add, change, or remove a speech app on your QuickTalker Freestyle in one of two ways depending on whether you have an AbleNet-managed device or not. It only takes a few minutes, and you won’t need to call ableCARE.

Before You Begin

• Check if your device is managed by AbleNet. Then, follow the corresponding directions below.
• Connect your QuickTalker Freestyle to Wi-Fi.

Managed Devices | QTF Manager App

If your device is managed by AbleNet, you can complete this process using the QTF Manager App. You can have up to two speech apps at a time, labeled “Speech App 1” and “Speech App 2.”

What You’ll Need

• Back up your speech app.
• Have your FN number ready.
• Have your device serial number ready.
• Your 5-digit Device Manager Code, which you created when you first opened the app.

Change a Speech App

1. Open the Utilities folder, then tap QTF Manager.
2. Enter your Device Manager Code.
3. Tap Change Speech App.
4. Back up your current speech app if you haven’t already, then tap Continue.
5. Your current speech apps and your device serial number are shown at the top of the screen.
6. Select Speech App 1 or Speech App 2, depending on where you want the new app to go.
   • The new app replaces whatever is currently in that spot, even if the spot already has an app.
7. Fill out the form: fill in your FN number, the app you want, and accept the license agreement (EULA) if prompted.
8. Submit the form, then wait for the confirmation screen.
9. Your new app installs automatically as long as you’re connected to Wi-Fi.

Tip: If the Wi-Fi drops, the app keeps trying on its own. You can also tap Retry Now once you’re back on Wi-Fi.

Remove a Speech App

Follow these steps to remove a speech app without adding a new one.

1. Open the Utilities folder, then tap QTF Manager.
2. Enter your Device Manager Code.
3. Tap Change Speech App.
4. Select Remove an App.
5. Choose which app to remove: Speech App 1, Speech App 2, or both.
6. Submit the form, then look for the “App Removed” confirmation screen.
7. The app will automatically be removed as long as you’re connected to Wi-Fi.

Tip: If the Wi-Fi drops, tap Retry Now once you’re back on Wi-Fi.

Unmanaged Devices | App Store

For unmanaged AbleNet devices, you’ll have to turn off Screen Time restrictions and then head over to the App Store.

What You’ll Need

1. Back Up Your Speech App to Dropbox.
2. Have your Restrictions Passcode ready. If you do not know it, contact ableCARE, and they can help you find it.

Turn Off Screen Time Restrictions

Note: If you see the App Store in your Utilities folder, you may skip these steps.

1. Open Settings.
2. Tap Screen Time on the left side of the screen.
3. Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions on the right side of the screen.
4. Tap iTunes & App Store Purchases.
5. Enter your Restrictions Passcode when asked.
6. Tap Installing Apps, then select Allow.

Add a Speech App

1. Open the App Store.
2. Find the speech app you’d like to download.
3. Tap Get.
4. Confirm your download. The app should install on your device.
5. Turn Screen Time restrictions back on when you’re finished.

Remove a Speech App

1. Press and hold on the speech app you want to remove.
2. Tap Remove App.
3. Tap Delete App, then Delete to confirm.
4. Your app will uninstall from your device.
5. Turn Screen Time restrictions back on when you’re finished.
