You’re here because: Your speech app isn’t making any sound, even though your device is on.
Check the Volume Level
First, check that your device isn’t muted, and the volume is turned up.
- On a standard QuickTalker Freestyle (handle facing the ceiling), the volume buttons are on the left side of the top edge, under the handle. Press the left button to turn the volume up.
- On a QuickTalker Freestyle Mini (handle facing the ceiling), the volume buttons are on the bottom of the left edge. Press the button closest to the handle to turn the volume up.
Clean the Headphone Jack
Inspect the headphone jack for debris (only the standard device size has a headphone jack). Debris can cause a short and block sound from the speakers. If debris has caused a short, a headphone icon appears when you try to change the volume.
To clean the headphone jack do the following:
- Turn the device off.
- Clean the headphone jack with rubbing alcohol and a soft brush, such as one used for cleaning braces, or a pipe cleaner.
- Let it dry for 10 minutes before turning it back on.
Check Your Speech App Subscription
Check the subscription on the speech app if there is one. If your subscription has lapsed, you’ll need to renew it.
- To renew your speech app, follow the instructions sent to your email or at Activate a Speech App Subscription.
Next Steps
- If the above doesn’t work, you can try troubleshooting your speech app by visiting the speech app guides. Head over to the support articles and see if there’s a fix for you.
- If you turned up the volume, but you think it should be louder, you can submit an accessory request for an external speaker, covered under the five-year warranty.
