You’re here because: The screen on your device shows lines, blotchy or discolored patches, or flickering, looks zoomed in or off-color, or is otherwise not working correctly.
The good news: If the steps below don’t fix it, you’re covered under the AbleNet five-year warranty. We’ll help you get a replacement so communication can continue.
STOP – If the screen is cracked, chipped or broken, go to My Screen is Cracked instead. If the screen looks like it’s lifting away from the case, the battery may be swelling. Go to My Battery Is Swollen or Bulging.
Step 1: Clean the Screen
- Leave the device in its case and leave the screen protector in place.
- Wipe the screen with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to remove smudges, moisture or food residue.
- Dry your hands and take off any gloves before you touch the screen.
- Tap the screen. If it looks and responds normally, you’re done. If not, go to “Step 2: Restart the Device.”
Step 2: Restart the Device
- Force Restart Your Device.
- Check the screen once the device turns back on. If it looks and responds normally, you’re done. If not, go to “Step 3: Check the Display Settings” or if the screen isn’t responding to touch at all, skip to “Step 5: Request a Replacement.”
Step 3: Check the Display Settings
Some accessibility settings change how the screen looks. If one was turned on by accident, the screen can look inverted, tinted, dim or zoomed in. If the screen is zoomed in too far to use, double-tap it with three fingers to zoom back out.
- Open Settings, then select Accessibility.
- Select Display & Text Size.
- Turn off Smart Invert, Classic Invert, Color Filters and Reduce White Point if they’re on and weren’t set up on purpose.
- Select Accessibility to go back, then select Zoom.
- Turn off Zoom if it’s on and wasn’t set up on purpose.
- Check the screen. If it looks normal, you’re done. If not, go to “Step 4: Update the Operating System.”
Step 4: Update the Operating System
- Update the operating system to the latest version.
- Check the screen after the update finishes. If it still has lines or blotches, or doesn’t respond to touch properly, go to “Step 5: Request a Replacement.”
Step 5: Request a Replacement
If the screen still isn’t working after these steps, it’s likely a hardware problem.
- Complete the Warranty Request Form to request a replacement device.
- Ship the device back using the return label we send you. We’ll ship your replacement device Next Day Air once the device is on its way back to us.
