Battery Is Swollen or Bulging 🔗

What to do: 

1. Switch off the device immediately. 
2. Unplug the device from power. Don’t charge it. A swollen battery under continued charging is a much higher fire risk. 
3. Don’t press, squeeze, bend, or force the device closed. The bulge is gas pressure inside the battery, and force can cause it to rupture and start a fire. 
4. Set the device on a hard, non-flammable surface, away from paper, fabric, bedding, or trash. Don’t put it in a backpack, drawer, cubby, car, or any other enclosed space. 
5. Keep the device in a low-traffic area where it won’t be bumped into, sat on, or handled by anyone. 
6. Watch for active venting. Hissing, heat, a sweet or chemical smell, smoke, or visible leaking are signs that it’s venting. Follow the emergency steps below if this happens. 

Device Is Actively Venting or Smoking 🔗

What to do: 

1. Get everyone out of the immediate area. 
2. Don’t move the device once it’s actively venting or smoking. 
3. Call 911 or your local emergency number, and treat it as a fire hazard.

1. Submit an AbleNet warranty request for a replacement QuickTalker Freestyle. 
2. If the battery is not actively venting, then ship the device back to AbleNet via ground shipping. 
3. If the battery was venting, don’t ship the device to AbleNet and don’t throw it in the trash or regular recycling. Take it to a local Apple Store, Best Buy, or recycling center for battery-specific disposal.
