The Importance of Guided Access
What Guided Access Does
Insurance funds your QuickTalker Freestyle as a dedicated communication device. Guided Access keeps it working that way.
Guided Access locks your device to the speech application, preventing accidental exits to other apps on the device. Without it, users can navigate away from their communication system—losing access to their primary way to express needs, ask questions, and connect with others.
The fix is simple: Turn on Guided Access and keep communication accessible at all times.
Want to use other apps? Set up a separate device (smartphone, tablet, or computer) dedicated for entertainment. That way, users can communicate while enjoying entertainment or other content without interruption.
Best Practices
Turn off Guided Access every night. Before bed, exit Guided Access, plug the device into power, and connect to Wi-Fi. This prevents the device from freezing and ensures software updates install overnight.
Pick a passcode you’ll remember. You’ll need your 6-digit passcode to exit Guided Access, so choose something easy to recall, but isn’t 1-1-1-1-1-1.
Setup Instructions
Guided Access lets you limit access to a single app and control which features are available. Use it to add boundaries that keep the QuickTalker Freestyle focused on communication.
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Guided Access
- Turn Guided Access On
- Tap Passcode Settings and create a 6-digit passcode
- Enter and confirm your passcode
- Turn on Accessibility Shortcut
- Open your speech application
- Triple-press the home button quickly (for the newer generation of QuickTalker Mini, triple-press the Sleep/Wake/Power button)
- If Guided Access doesn’t start, perform a force restart, then repeat step 7
- Tap Start at the top of your screen to turn on guided access
- Test it by trying to exit the speech app—it should stay locked unless you enter your passcode
- To exit: Triple-press the home button (or the side Sleep/Wake/Power button), enter your passcode, tap End
Every night: Exit Guided Access before bed, connect to power and Wi-Fi, and let updates install.
