This article walks you through activating a subscription for a speech app on your QuickTalker Freestyle. What you need to do depends on your situation. Whether you’re setting up a device for the first time, renewing a subscription, switching apps, or receiving a warranty replacement.

First Time QuickTalker Freestyle Users

If this is the first time you’re setting up a subscription speech app on your QuickTalker Freestyle, check your email for the official walkthrough, or follow the steps below.

Before You Begin

1. Create a Dedicated QuickTalker Freestyle Apple Account.
2. Connect Your Device to Wi-Fi.
3. Have your Funding Request Number (FN) ready.
4. Find Your Device’s Serial Number.

Visit the Subscription Self-Service Support Hub 

1. Go to the Self-Service Subscription Form. 
2. Review the setup information, then check the acknowledgement checkbox, and select Continue. 
3. Enter your Funding Request Number and the name of the QuickTalker Freestyle User, then select Search. 
4. Select Start a Subscription once it appears.  
   • If it doesn’t, double-check that your funding request number and the user’s name are correct. If the issue continues, contact ableCARE.  
5. Select Yes if you have an Apple device. Select No if you do not.
6. Fill out the form fields in Step 4. You’ll need your device’s serial number, FN, and Apple Account email, password, and phone number.

Redeem Your Gift Card

1. In the email associated with the dedicated Apple Account, you’ll find an email with a Gift Card code.
2. Select Redeem in the email.  
3. Select Redeem again in the browser window. 
4. Select View Code. 
5. Select the blue code link under the Apple Gift Card. 
6. Sign in with the Apple Account password if prompted. 
7. The gift card will be redeemed automatically. You can exit the App Store once you see the balance added. 

If you don’t see the gift card email:

1. Open Safari and sign in to icloud.com to check the inbox there.
2. If you still don’t see it, make sure categories are turned off:
   1. In the Mail app, select the three dots above the inbox.
   2. Make sure “List View” is selected.
   3. On the iCloud website, select the gear icon above “Mailboxes.”
   4. Select “Hide Categories” if it appears.
3. If categories are already off and you still don’t see the gift card, contact ableCARE.

Download Your Speech App

1. Open the App Store and search for your subscription speech app by name.
2. Select Get, then enter the Apple Account password.
3. On the password requirements pop-up, choose either option.

Activate Your Subscription

1. Open your speech app.
2. Create a new user or sign in to an existing account.
3. To activate your subscription, tap the speech bubble with the strike through it and follow the on-screen instructions.
4. Congrats! You’ve activated your speech app subscription.

Renew an Annual Subscription 

• Check your email for the Self-Service Subscription Form and the walkthrough guide.
• You must fill out the form with the the Dedicated QuickTalker Freestyle Apple Account credentials you created when you first received the device.

Receiving a Warranty Device With a Previous Subscription App 

• If you received a replacement device that previously used a subscription speech app or had in-app purchases on it, scan the screen-cling QR code attached to the front of the device with a personal device. This will provide you with a form to add the App Store to the device.
• IMPORTANT: Please ensure you are signed into the same Apple Account that was on the previous device, as this is where the speech app’s subscription funds are located.
