To ensure that your QuickTalker Freestyle operates seamlessly, you must have it connected to a Wi-Fi network so you can receive automatic updates for the speech app loaded on the device. Many speech app errors can be avoided with automatic updates.

Please note that this guide only applies to devices managed by AbleNet.

Instructions🔗

The video below provides instructions for connecting your QuickTalker Freestyle to Wi-Fi to receive automatic updates:

Please follow these steps to connect your QuickTalker Freestyle Wi-Fi:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Wi-Fi
  3. Turn Wi-Fi ON.
  4. Select your Wi-Fi network.
  5. Input your Wi-Fi network’s password, if applicable.
  6. The device will check to see if a new version of the app is available automatically.

Tips and Troubleshooting🔗

  • Keep Wi-Fi on, even at night – each night, plug your device in to charge and make sure Wi-Fi stays on. Make sure you have unrestricted access to Wi-Fi.
  • Request unrestricted Wi-Fi access at school – If you leave the device at school, you’ll need unrestricted access in order to update the speech app. Check out How to Request Ongoing Access to Wi-Fi from Your District’s IT Department.
  • Exit the speech app and return to home screen – if the app is open, it won’t automatically update. Instead, a pop-up will appear asking if you’d like to update.
  • Turn off Guided Access – Guided Access prevents the pop-up that asks if you’d like to update the app from appearing.
