In today’s world video game consoles are found in almost every house. Most families and children use video games as a leisure experience. Here’s how you can make video games accessible for individuals who use switches!
Gaming for Everyone: How to Make Video Games Accessible with Switch Controls
Microsoft Xbox
If you have an Xbox console already you will need:

Once the adaptive controller is connected to the Xbox you can then plug the switch users switch ports on the back of the controller. You will want to know ahead of time what action you want the switch user to control then plug the switch in the appropriately labeled port.
- For example if you want them to be able to control jumping and jumping is "A" plug the switch into the "A" port.
- When they hit the switch they will now be able to make the character in the video game jump!
If your user is capable of using multiple switches you can plug in more than one switch and have them control other actions.
Utilize Controller Assist:
Xbox has a feature called Controller Assist which will link the accessible controller with a regular controller. This would allow a gaming partner to use the regular controller to complete any actions necessary (I.e. moving via the joystick etc.) while the switch user is controlling one action.
To turn on Controller Assist:
- Using the original controller press the Xbox button to open the guide
- Select Profile and System > Settings > Accessibility > Controller
- Choose Xbox Controller Assist settings and then choose Turn on

Peppa Pig World Adventures- The switch user can complete different actions such as selecting, talking to different characters, interacting with different things in the environment
Disney Dreamlight Valley- The switch user can complete various actions such as picking up items, making selections, talking to other characters
Minecraft - The switch user can complete various actions
Paw Patrol Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay- the switch user can complete actions

Nintendo Switch
If you have a Nintendo Switch console already you will need:

Plug the Hori Flex Adaptive Controller into the USB port of the docking station. You can now plug the switch into the switch ports listed on the controller. You will want to know ahead of time what action you want the switch user to control then plug the switch in the appropriately labeled port.
