Before You Open the App: Account & Backup Setup
Before opening your speech app, we recommend setting up your Dropbox account right away so you are ready to back up any personalizations to the app.
- Go to the Utilities folder on the Home screen of the device
- Open Dropbox
- Create a free basic account
Opening the App for the First Time
When you open LAMP Words for Life for the first time, you will see the following prompts:
- Review and accept the license agreement
- Select a voice and language
- Option to add an additional language for multilingual users (Spanish, German, or French)
- Connect automatic backups
- Tap Connect to link your Dropbox account, or tap Skip if you prefer to use manual backups
- Watch a short intro video (optional)
- Register or create an account (optional — not needed for general use)
- Scroll down and tap No Thanks if you do not wish to create an account
- Select a vocabulary:
- LAMP 1 Hit — core word page
- LAMP WFL Full — full vocabulary option
- Tap Customize and save a copy to begin using your vocabulary

Exploring Vocabulary & Finding Words
Start exploring your vocabulary by browsing folders and pages. Use the Word Finder tool to quickly locate where words live within the system.
There are two ways to access the Word Finder tool in LAMP:
- Tap Menu, then tap Word Finder
- Tap the Spelling/Numbers icon, then tap the purple Word Finder icon in the top row

Basic Customization: Making the App Personal
Begin simple customizations to better reflect the communicator’s needs and preferences.
How to Add or Edit Buttons
- Tap the folder where you’d like to add or edit a button (e.g. Eat)
- Tap Menu and select Edit Page
- Tap an existing icon or create a new icon to customize
- Tap Save
- Tap Done

Protecting Customizations
To prevent unwanted changes, it can be helpful to use a menu passcode.

Don’t Forget: Back Up Your App
Regular backups help protect vocabulary and customizations. We recommend backing up:
- After initial setup
- Following major edits
- On a regular schedule
