Tips and Troubleshooting๐Ÿ”—

LED Light Indicator ๐Ÿ”—

The LED positioned above the record switch displays the status of the iTalk 2. Here’s the LED color and light pattern for each status;

  • Red LED
    • Four flashes in a row – the battery is low
    • Steady for 1 second – the device is powered on
    • Steady – the device is in record mode
    • Continuous flashing – a message is being recorded
    • Single flash – a message is being played
    • Flashing, followed by audible warbled beep – the device’s memory has been cleared
  • Yellow LED
    • Steady for 1 second – the device has no recorded message
    • Flashing (while in Record mode) – the device’s memory/ storage is full

Battery Installation๐Ÿ”—

We recommend always using regular, alkaline batteries to avoid any issues with recording or playing messages. Batteries labeled โ€œHeavy Duty,โ€ โ€œIndustrial Grade,โ€ or โ€œProCell” handle power differently than regular alkaline batteries, and when used in our devices they behave similar to low or dead batteries.

Make sure your battery is new and recently purchased. Batteries that youโ€™ve used in other devices or left sitting for a while may lack the power needed to operate the switch correctly.

The video below demonstrates how to install a 9V battery into the device.

Clearing All Messages๐Ÿ”—

Using External Switches with iTalk2๐Ÿ”—

You can connect all AbleNet external switches to the iTalk2 for users who need a different activation method. This allows a user to play a message using the switches that best meets their mobility needs. The video below demonstrates how to connect an external switch to the iTalk2.

Using Toys and Appliances with iTalk2๐Ÿ”—

The iTalk2 can activate switch-enabled toys and appliances through its input/output jacks. This allows a user to play a message and activate a toy or accessory at the same time. Battery-operated toys can be made switch-enabled using the AbleNet Battery Device Adapter, and any item with a plug can be switch-enabled using the AbleNet PowerLink 4. The video below demonstrates how to use the iTalk2 to activate toys and appliances.
