Battery Installation
We recommend always using regular, alkaline batteries to avoid any issues with recording or playing messages. Batteries labeled “Heavy Duty,” “Industrial Grade,” or “ProCell” handle power differently than regular alkaline batteries, and when used in our devices they behave similar to low or dead batteries.
Make sure your battery is new and recently purchased. Batteries that have been used for other devices or those that have been sitting a while may not have the power to operate the switch correctly.
The video below demonstrates how to install a 9V battery into the device.

Using External Switches with iTalk2
All AbleNet external switches can be connected to the iTalk2 for users who need a different activation method. This allows a user to play a message using the switches that best meets their mobility needs. The video below demonstrates how to connect an external switch to the iTalk2.
Using Toys and Appliances with iTalk2
The iTalk2 can be used to activate switch-enabled toys and appliances by using the input/output jacks. This allows a user to play a message and activate a toy or accessory at the same time. Battery-operated toys can be made switch-enabled using the AbleNet Battery Device Adapter, and any item with a plug can be switch-enabled using the AbleNet PowerLink 4. The video below demonstrates how to use the iTalk2 to activate toys and appliances.
