Device Personalization Guide
One of the best parts of AAC is the opportunity to personalize it. From adding an AAC user’s family members and pets to including their most‑loved snacks, hobbies, and interests. While many vocabulary items may already be built into the system, it can still be challenging to gather all the details you need, especially when working with a new AAC user.
This simple personalization guide is designed to support both families and SLPs. For SLPs, you can send this home after a session, have the child and caregiver complete it together, and return it by the next visit so you can continue building a meaningful and motivating vocabulary set. For parents and caregivers, this handout can help you think through what would be most important to include on your child’s device. Collaborate with your SLP to learn how to add new words and decide where they should go.
Let’s make AAC personal, powerful, and truly reflective of each user’s world!
