The vocabulary filter is a feature that is unique to TD Snap’s Motor Plan vocabulary sets.  This feature allows you to alter what words are visible to the user, without deleting any vocabulary.

The vocabulary filter helps support users in a few different ways:

  1. Turning on the vocabulary filter allows us to simplify the display for users who may need less icons on a page, while still allowing them access to the biggest grid size possible. Using the vocabulary filter to create larger spaces between icons, or lessen visual stimuli, may support a user’s current needs- while still giving them access to a grid size they can grow with. This prevents us from having to change the grid size later on when we want access to more icons, allowing motor plans to stay consistent from the very beginning.
  1. The vocabulary filter can also be a powerful teaching tool! By using it to “hide” icons on a page, we can isolate certain words we want to highlight during an activity. For example, hiding all the action words except “jump” while jumping on the trampoline can draw a user’s attention to that specific vocabulary word. Highlighting a few specific words during an activity while “hiding” the rest allows for high repetition practice of those motor plans.  Once the activity is complete, we can toggle the vocabulary filter back “off” to return to the full vocabulary and give the user the opportunity to generalize what they’ve learned!

However you are using the vocabulary filter, it is important to remember that it was designed as a short term tool. We want the user to have access to the most vocabulary as early and frequently as possible to support their language learning and development.

If you’re interested in setting up vocabulary filter within your user’s TD Snap Motor Plan vocabulary,  tap the funnel shaped icon on the top right of the page, and toggle vocabulary filter “ON.” You can add words to the filter by tapping them directly, or by using the “add” button in the bottom left.
