Before You Open the App: Account & Backup Setup

Before opening your speech app, we recommend setting up your Dropbox account right away so you are ready to back up any personalizations to the app.

1. Go to the Utilities folder on the Home screen of the device
2. Open Dropbox
3. Create a free basic account

Opening the App for the First Time

1. Tap Get Started
2. Type in your name
3. Select a voice (this can be changed later if needed)
4. Select whether you will allow Proloquo4Text to access data to improve their product
5. You will now see phrases on the left, QuickTalk icons on the right, and a center text box where you can type using the iOS keyboard
6. Tap the blue checkbox in the top-right corner

Basic Customization: Making the App Personal

Begin simple customizations to better reflect the communicator’s needs and preferences.

Protecting Customizations

To prevent unwanted changes, it can be helpful to limit access to settings and edit mode.

1. Tap the Options (cog/gear icon) at the top of the screen
2. To restrict editing and sharing, tap Restrictions and toggle Editing or Sharing on or off
3. To place a password on Settings:
   1. Under General Settings, tap Lock Settings
   2. Toggle Lock on
   3. Enter your desired password
   4. Confirm your password and tap Save

Don’t Forget: Back Up Your App

Regular backups help protect vocabulary and customizations. We recommend backing up:

• After initial setup
• Following major edits
• On a regular schedule

Proloquo4Text supports backup via Google Drive or Dropbox integration. Since AbleNet QuickTalker Freestyles come with the Dropbox app, we typically recommend using Dropbox. For full instructions, see Export to Dropbox in Proloquo4Text ↗

You can also create manual backups and export them to iTunes or share them via AirDrop, or save to local files:

1. Tap the Options (cog/gear icon) at the top of the screen
2. Tap Backup under General Settings
3. Create a backup of your user or all users
