Opening the App for the First Time

  1. The app is ready to use the first time you open it
  2. The message window is at the top of the page. Tap in the window to begin typing.
  3. Tap the blue button below the message window to change the voice.
  4. All pre-programmed topic pages are beneath the “speak” and “voice” buttons.

Exploring Vocabulary and Finding Words

AAC Text Communication Device is designed for literate users who type using a keyboard. The app comes with a limited pre-built vocabulary; there is no word search feature.

Start exploring your vocabulary by browsing the pre-programmed categories. Tap each category and the related pre-programmed phrases will populate on the bottom half of the screen.

Basic Customization: Making the App Personal

Begin with simple customizations to better reflect the communicator’s needs and preferences.

How to Add or Delete Categories

Use the “Add” and “Delete” buttons in Categories to make changes.

How to Delete or Replace Phrases

  1. Open the Category you want to edit.
  2. Related category phrases will populate in the bottom half of the screen.
  3. Tap the light gray Delete button.
  4. Type in the phrase you want to delete.

How to Add Phrases

  1. Tap the light gray Add button at the bottom of the screen to add new phrases.
  2. Type in the phrase you’d like to add.
  3. Once you have filled the available spaces, scroll to view additional programmed phrases.

Backing Up Your App

AAC Text Communication Device prioritizes a simplified design. There is no option to “back up” customized phrases, as the focus of the app is typing messages in the message window
