Frequently Asked Questions

Thank you for your interest in the Summer enABLEment Program! Below please find a list of commonly asked questions. If you need additional information and support after reviewing the below, please don’t hesitate to contact us at [email protected].
Who qualifies for this program?
The Summer enABLEment Program is available to school-based speech therapists and families with loved ones who have started their ableEXPERIENCE and are currently using the QuickTalker Freestyle speech device. If you are a speech therapist who needs extra time to finish your client’s speech evaluation before the end of the school year, the program will pause your client’s ableEXPERIENCE, allowing them to take their device home over the summer to continue progressing their communication journey. When school begins in the fall, the student’s ableEXPERIENCE will resume.
Why would a student be disqualified from the program?
A funding request may be disqualified from the program if:
- A speech therapist has not been identified for the student when school resumes in the fall.
- The family is unable or unwilling to collect observations/data over the summer.
- If the speech therapist is unable to configure the device for the family.
If the student becomes eligible to participate during the enrollment period, please re-register them for the program.
What should I do if my student moves during the summer break?
If your student moves during summer break, please email [email protected] the contact information for their new school district and speech therapist. If it is unknown where the student will be transferring, the funding request closes, and the device must be returned. When the family enrolls their loved one at a new school in the fall, they can reopen the funding request.
What should I do if my loved one’s speech therapist moves districts during the summer?
If the speech therapist learns they will not be returning to school in the fall with their client, they should email [email protected] the contact information for the speech therapist who will be working with the student. If it is unknown who the student will be working with, the funding request will close, and the device will need to be returned.
What if the speech therapist or family closes the funding request during the Summer enABLEment Program?
If the student’s funding request closes during the program, the family and/or the speech therapist should notify [email protected] directly. Once alerted, we will provide instructions and a pre-paid shipping label to return the device. If needed, a scheduled device pick-up can be arranged.
What should I do if there is a new speech therapist assigned to the student in the fall?
If a new speech therapist is assigned, please email [email protected] with (1) their contact information and (2) the date of when to transfer the file to them. This will ensure a smooth transition for the student in the fall.
What if a private therapist will be working with the client over the summer?
If another speech therapist is managing the funding request and working directly with the student during the summer, we recommend transferring the file to that supporting speech therapist to ensure all updates are directed to them over the summer. We will keep the school speech therapist listed as an additional contact to maintain their connection to the file.
What if we meet insurance requirements over the summer and are ready to submit the speech evaluation prior to the fall?
Please feel free to submit the speech evaluation at any time once the insurance requirements have been fulfilled. Once submitted, AbleNet will review and respond with feedback and next steps. Please email [email protected]or call 651-294-2211 with questions about the speech evaluation.
