Instructions for Bingo!

1. Describe Each Float

Parents, siblings, or caregivers can use the AAC device to model how to talk about what you see in the parade! Try describing the float’s colors, shapes, or features. You don’t need to form full sentences—focus on modeling a few meaningful words as you talk.

Tip: Speak naturally while selecting words on the device to show how AAC and speech can work together.

Example: Verbal words in plain text, AAC icons in bold

  • “Spongebob is YELLOW. He is FUNNY. I LIKE Spongebob!”
  • Encourage your child to join in or add their own thoughts like BIG, SILLY, or WOW.

You can also model carrier phrases to expand core word use:

  • I SEE a balloon.
  • I LIKE the music.
  • YOU FEEL happy.

2. Look for Characters in Your Device

Many AAC systems already include characters or categories like animals, shows, or holidays. Try using the search tool to find related words—like turkey, bear, monkey, Disney, or Spongebob.

You don’t necessarily need to add in each character to do this activity. However, if your child would like to add in a few favorite characters, here are some tips!

  • Let your child help choose a few favorite characters from the parade to add into folders like TV/Movies or Characters
  • You can use symbols already available on the device or search for pictures online to represent each character.
  • If you’re not sure how to add new icons, visit our Support Hub for step-by-step instructions!

3. Get Your “Bingo!” Vocabulary Ready!

Before the parade, use the search tool to find or add BINGO to your device.

You can place it in a folder like Games or Fun Words so it’s easy to find during play. When your child gets a bingo, model “BINGO!”, “I WIN!”, or “YAY!” to celebrate.

4. Model More Than Words

Encourage a mix of communication functions while playing:

  • Commenting: “That’s FUNNY!”, “WOW that’s BIG!”
  • Questioning: “Where is Mickey?”, “Do you LIKE it?”
  • Expressing excitement: “LOOK!”, “MORE! floats!”
  • Protesting: “NO, not my favorite!”

Each modeled word gives your child another chance to learn how their AAC can help them join the conversation.
