How to Erase All Messages from the QuickTalker FT


Introduction
This guide explains how to erase all recorded messages from the QuickTalker FT speech device. This is useful when preparing the device for a new user or starting fresh with new content.
The process takes less than 2 minutes and completely clears all message areas.
Required Items
- A powered-on QuickTalker FT speech device from AbleNet
- Access to the Record button is located on the back of the device
Instructions
- Action: Turn the device around to locate the Record button on the back.
Expected Result: You should see the Record button near the volume dial and battery compartment. - Action: Press and hold the Record button for about 10 seconds.
Expected Result: After 10 seconds, you will hear a tone that confirms all messages have been erased.

Test a few message areas by pressing the message cells on the front of the device.
You should hear silence, and the record light should flash yellow, indicating no messages are stored.
Tips and Troubleshooting
- Tip: If you’re reusing a QuickTalker FT with a different student or client, erasing all messages ensures a clean slate.
- If nothing happens when holding Record:
- Make sure the device is powered on and has working batteries. For more information on batteries, please see this article.
- Ensure you’re holding the Record button continuously for the full 10 seconds.
- To erase just one message: Record over that individual cell instead of erasing all messages.
